(Holly Knight/Bernard Taupin)

It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's never, ever going to call, no, no, oh!
It's over when the phone stops ringing.

She said to me tonight "Why stay? They only tell you lies".
Is it a dream? My conscience tells me he's just make-believe.
Don't be a fool for boys, it's only common sense.
So mama says "Use your head! Can't you tell he's got you
Hypnotized and paralysed, and I see trouble up ahead?"

It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's never, ever going to call, no, no, oh!
It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's done this kind of thing to girls before.

I tried to memorize just how he kissed me when we said goodnight.
So sincere, he said "You see, I'm going to be a millionaire".
My friends, as always, laugh, they think it's so, so cute
To call him names, like how it used in front of me.
They investigate and violate my privacy, they act like it's all a game.

It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's never, ever going to call, no, no, oh!
It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's done this kind of thing to girls before.

My friends, as always, laugh.

It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's never, ever going to call, no, no, oh!
It's over when the phone stops ringing.

So how come they have to be so right, all the time?
He was the special kind of shy.
He said he'd call and now, it's been two days.
Now, all I can hear is mama's words.
Phone stop, phone stop, phone stop ringing.
Phone stop, phone stop, phone stop ringing.

It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's never, ever going to call, no, no, oh!
It's over when the phone stops ringing.
He's done this kind of thing to girls before.

I'm gonna need a new sensation, when the phone stops ringing.
I'm gonna need a new sensation, when the phone stops ringing.
I'm gonna need a new sensation.
Phone stop, phone stop, phone stop ringing.
I'm gonna need a new sensation, it's over when the phone stops ringing.
I'm gonna need a new sensation, when the phone stops ringing.
I'm gonna need a new sensation, when the phone stops ringing.
