She´s got a picture of him as a drifter
she knows all about his outlaw past
he couldn´t see that, gave up his freedom
she didn´t even have to ask.
as far as she knows, he´s over all of that
but she doesn´t know how close he´s come to going back

Cause the whiskey and the wind
are stronger than they´ve ever been
and not to now the two best friends he´s ever known
they keep whispering to him
he don´t need her when he´s got them
so he prays to God that they don´t prove him wrong again
or he´ll be gone again with the whiskey and the wind

Stuck in Chicago, three feet of fresh snow
but he´s got a company creditcard
the end of a long day, he eats in a cafe
across the lobby from the hotelbar
and the devil on his shoulder
reminds him he´s alone
as he walks passed the bar,
to his room to call back home

Cause the whiskey and the wind
are stronger than they´ve ever been
and not to now the two best friends he´s ever known
they keep whispering to him
he don´t need her when he´s got them
so he prays to God that they don´t prove him wrong again
or he´ll be gone again with the whiskey and the wind

oooh the whiskey and the wind
the whiskey and the wind
