To Rafferty's bar in my old jaunting car
I took myself one Friday evening
To think on a son so deceiving
It's one drink down and another to go

He was married in haste to a woman unchaste
Much to the shame of the father
His face still half covered in lather
It's one drink down and another to go

It's one drink down and another to go
When I pass through the town
I must hang my head low
It's one drink down and another to go

I'm not the kind to condemn out of hand
A woman whose virtue is easy
Just as long as she doesn't deceive me
It's one drink down and another to go

Imagine a life with an unfaithful wife
Might wake up in the morning
And find that she's left without warning
It's one drink down and another to go

It's one drink down and another to go
When I pass through the town
I must hang my head low
It's one drink down and another to go
