Why should a kid who has run out of gum
have to beg for a ride to the store?
Which by car is just minutes away
but by foot could take half of the day!

And why can a grown-up zoom off in the car
to a party that's right down the block?
And when even your pet
gets a ride to the vet
Oh why should a kid have to walk?!

Wandering through the traffic
probably getting lost
probably getting hit by a car
bit by a dog
choked by exhaust!

And another thing.....
Why should a kid have to wheedle and plead
for a ride that she really deserves?
We'd be back before ten minutes pass
I'd be happy to pay for the gas!

In this land we have taxis and trains
Helicopters and planes
You can fly through the sky like a hawk!
We have tugs and canoes
We have B-52s
So why should a kid have to wear out her shoes?
So why should a kid have to walk?!

And walk...
