(Maxine Brown)

If being good means being lonely that's not for me
Cause I'm lonely for someone who will never be free
If being bad means to have her I'll live without cry
If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

If wishes were horses beggars would ride
If beggars could be chosers you'd be here by my side
If sinners were saints I'd have nothing to hide
If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

--- Instrumental ---

If being happy means riches then a proper I would be
When daydreams are treasures then sadness comes free
Oh I wish I had a nickel for each time I've cried
If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

If wishes were horses beggars would ride
If beggars could be chosers you'd be here by my side
If sinners were saints I'd have nothing to hide
If wishes were horses beggars would ride...
