(Cindy Walker)

Please don't hang up on me for I just call to say
That I'm leaveing and I won't be back again
And ask you if you'd see me and be with me one more time
Not as a sweetheart but just as a friend.

Not as a sweetheart for I know your love is gone for me
But just for the old time sake leave me a memory do this for me
And please would you take my hand and just kiss me once again
Not as a sweetheart but just as a friend.

Well, thanks darling, anyway no you can't break your date
And plans can't wait and broken hearts can'r mend
So bye bye be a sweet girl and think of me sometime
Not as a sweetheart but just as a friend.

Not as a sweetheart for I know your love is gone for me
But just for the sake of my aching heart
Say something sweet to me for I used to be
Your one and your only love and it hurts to see it end
Not as a sweetheart but just as your friend.

Not as a sweetheart but just as your friend...
