There's a man behind the guitar
And he's not too happy as a superstar
Am I asking too much
Will you reach out and touch
The man behind the guitar

Big Motors comin'
Smokin', Dixie gum in
Knit me into a plastic man
Who can that natural be
Smile though I don't feel good
Wear clothes that they would
Losing all my best friends
Who are asking what happened to me
Take a good look and see

There's a man behind the guitar
And he's not too happy as a superstar
Am I asking too much
Will you reach out and touch
The man behind the guitar
Boy you will go far
You will be a real star
So much money to spend
That you can buy anything that you see
A movie queen to escort you
In the big Cadillac that we bought you
All these things and all I want
Is not like how it used to be
Just take a good look and see

Still get kicks out of guitar layin'
The girls go wild when they see my style

There's a man behind the guitar
And he's not too happy as a superstar
Am I asking too much
Will you reach out and touch
The man behind the guitar
