All of the girls hoping for better things
She didn't care; she was unaware
All that she wanted was there in the backyard
Blue sky, balloons in the afternoons

Here in the dark, she feels her first heartbeat
She throws back the shade to the sunshine
Nothing could stop him from moving closer
He turns to a clock as their legs entwine

All of the boys waiting for something
He didn't wait; he took everything
His face like a child's, his hands like an old man's
He sang all the time and he couldn't sing

Here in the dark, he wants to forget her
Run to the rooftop and fly away
She covers his eyes and tells him to make a wish
He laughs, but it ends in a sigh
He laughs, but it ends in a sigh
He laughs
But it ends
In a sigh
