You show up in the city and you're good to go
You got a smile on your face
You're looking down the barrel of a shotgun though

A city so big that you can't see out

You see a man nodding off sleeping under a tarp
Another one hailing a cab
A couple thousand broken minds
Buying up the latest fad

Back on the J train like a memory
Or some tread mill that bends and curves
When you fail to break the cycle
You get what you deserve

Final day and a ticket stub
Leaving without a trace
But the sun is out and it's beautiful
And so a smile finds your face

Heading up north on an upward kick
That city just takes and takes
The story of another person
Who never learns from their mistakes
